Grants

The Feoffees make grants for general charitable purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of York, and also for the upkeep and maintenance of Church of England churches in York, based on its pre-1974 boundaries.

In the last ten years, over one million pounds has been given in grants to a great variety of projects.

Sums awarded are usually under £10,000.

Grants are not made to individuals.

Making an application

The Feoffees meet four times a year usually in March, June, September and December to consider grant applications. Applications should be made before the middle of the previous month. Late applications will be deferred to the next meeting.

All grant requests need to be made using our application forms. Provide a clear rationale for what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. Please keep your application as relevant and brief as possible, using clear and concise, non-technical language.

We have separate forms for applications relating to Church of England churches or General Charitable Purposes. Please note that we are unable to accept applications that are not in this format. If you experience any difficulties with the form, please contact us for assistance.

In addition to the completed form we ask you to include:

  1. Your latest annual accounts (or a budget/bank statement for very new organisations that do not yet have a full set of accounts).
  2. Confirmation that in the event of over-funding any grant made by the Feoffees will be refunded to them in full or in an appropriate proportion.
  3. Confirmation that a subsequent Evaluation Report on the outcomes of your project and how the grant has benefitted the recipient will be provided to the Feoffees.
