In 2020 the Feoffees awarded £10,000 to this organisation for their work with York residents.

The York Flood Appeal

A grant of £75,000 was awarded within days of the disastrous York floods of 2015, which caused enormous damage to both property and lives. It enabled assistance to be offered immediately to those affected, who were often without adequate insurance or otherwise vulnerable.

“The donation from the Feoffees was incredible and much appreciated. It was also a huge vote of confidence from a major York-based charitable trust, which I am sure encouraged others to support the flood appeal.”

Jan Garrill, Chief Executive Two Ridings Community Foundation

York floods rescue

St Denys, York

A grant of £30,000 was awarded for major works to this church, where the north aisle was subsiding and the medieval glass and tracery needed rescuing. This helped to secure matched funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund in a less privileged part of the city.

“It is becoming increasingly challenging to obtain funding for York’s city centre churches and the Feoffees’ grants to St Denys and other churches have been a lifeline to us.”

The Reverend Jane Nattrass, Priest-in-Charge

The Red Tower Project

A grant of £5,000 was awarded to help with fitting out the Red Tower, an ancient feature of York’s medieval walls which had fallen into disrepair.

It is now a community-based enterprise with a cafe and a variety of activities.

“The application process was clear, simple and flexible, ideal for a small organisation like ours, where volunteer time is limited.”

Carolyn Lloyd Brown, CIC Director
